Tesamorelin (developed under the code TH9507) is a synthetic analogue of human growth-hormone-releasing factor, hGRF(1–44), in which a trans-3-hexenoyl group is attached to the tyrosine at the amino terminus. The peptide backbone is otherwise the native 44-residue sequence.
The N-terminal modification makes the molecule resistant to cleavage by dipeptidyl aminopeptidase IV, slowing its degradation in plasma relative to the native sequence, as described in the non-clinical characterisation published in 2007. The compound was developed by Theratechnologies.
Tesamorelin is the active ingredient of a prescription product approved by the U.S. FDA in 2010 (Egrifta). The research material listed here is not that product and is not a drug.
