Written in full as Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp-NH2: an acetyl group on the N-terminus and an amide at the C-terminus, neither of which the one-letter string can show. Supplier listings for this compound disagree on the molecular formula; the one stated here is the PubChem record, and it is also what the eight residues plus those two end groups sum to.
SNAP-8 is a synthetic octapeptide corresponding to the N-terminal end of SNAP-25, one of the three proteins of the SNARE complex. It extends the shorter hexapeptide known as acetyl hexapeptide-8 by two further residues, alanine and aspartate, and like that peptide it is acetylated at the N-terminus and amidated at the C-terminus.
The peptide was developed by Lipotec, a Spanish specialty ingredients company now part of Lubrizol, as a cosmetic ingredient, and it is listed under the INCI names Acetyl Octapeptide-3 and Acetyl Glutamyl Heptapeptide-3. It is prepared by solid-phase synthesis.
