A 31-residue analogue of GLP-1(7–37) with α-aminoisobutyric acid at position 8, an arginine substitution at position 34, and a C18 fatty-diacid chain attached through a linker at position 26; a plain one-letter rendering would misstate it.
Semaglutide is a synthetic analogue of human glucagon-like peptide-1, GLP-1(7–37), of thirty-one residues. Three modifications distinguish it from the native sequence: α-aminoisobutyric acid replaces alanine at position 8, arginine replaces lysine at position 34, and a C18 fatty-diacid chain is attached to the lysine at position 26 through a short spacer.
The discovery work was published by Lau and colleagues in 2015. In the primary literature it is characterised pharmacologically as a GLP-1 receptor agonist.
Semaglutide is the active ingredient of prescription products approved by the U.S. FDA. The research material listed here is not those products and is not a drug.
