Spadin-derived heptapeptide
Also catalogued as PE 22-28, Spadin (22-28).
Seven residues with a free acid C-terminus and no modified positions, so the one-letter string is the whole structure. The name records where the fragment sits: residues 22 to 28 of spadin.
PE-22-28 is a synthetic heptapeptide corresponding to residues 22 through 28 of spadin. Spadin is itself a fragment — a 17-residue peptide released from the propeptide of sortilin, the sorting receptor encoded by the SORT1 gene, when that propeptide is cleaved during maturation.
The shortened fragment was described by Djillani and colleagues in 2017, among a set of spadin analogues prepared to test which part of the parent sequence carried its activity. It is produced by solid-phase synthesis.
PE-22-28 is a research peptide. It is not an approved drug in any jurisdiction.
