Mitochondrial-derived peptide

MOTS-c is a peptide of sixteen amino-acid residues whose coding sequence lies within the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal RNA gene (MT-RNR1), one of the short open reading frames identified inside the mitochondrial genome. The name abbreviates "mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA type-c".
The peptide was described in 2015 by Lee and colleagues, and is grouped in the literature with humanin and the SHLPs as a mitochondrial-derived peptide. The listed material is produced by chemical synthesis.
