Synthetic tripeptide
Also catalogued as Lys-Pro-Val, α-MSH(11–13).
KPV is the tripeptide lysine-proline-valine, corresponding to the three carboxy-terminal residues of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone — that is, residues 11 to 13 of the parent thirteen-residue hormone.
The fragment was described by Hiltz and Lipton in 1989 as the shortest sequence retaining the anti-inflammatory activity of the parent peptide in their model. The listed material is produced by chemical synthesis.
