Synthetic tetrapeptide

Epithalon is a synthetic peptide of four amino-acid residues: alanine, glutamate, aspartate, glycine. It is the shortest of the peptides developed at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, where it was derived from work on extracts of the pineal gland.
The peptide is produced by chemical synthesis; it is not isolated from tissue. It was described in the Russian literature from the 1990s, and studied in human somatic cell cultures by Khavinson and colleagues in 2003.
Epithalon is not an approved drug in any jurisdiction.
