The 43-residue thymosin β4 sequence, N-terminally acetylated. Note that the name TB-500 is used in supplier catalogues both for full-length thymosin β4 and for its shorter actin-binding fragment; the certificate of analysis for a given lot is what states which was supplied.
Thymosin β4 is a peptide of forty-three amino-acid residues, acetylated at its amino terminus, first isolated from calf thymus and sequenced completely by Low and Goldstein in 1981. It is one of the most abundant intracellular actin-binding peptides in mammalian cells.
The catalogue name TB-500 is not a registry name and is used inconsistently: some suppliers apply it to the full 43-residue peptide, others to the shorter fragment containing the actin-binding motif. The identity of any particular lot is established by its certificate of analysis, not by the name.
Thymosin β4 is not an approved drug in any jurisdiction. It appears on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list under S2.
