Synthetic erythropoietin-derived peptide

An 11-residue sequence corresponding to a solvent-exposed face of helix B of erythropoietin. Molecular formula and mass are omitted deliberately: the two figures carried for this compound in supplier listings are mutually inconsistent, and a reference page states nothing rather than picking one.
ARA-290 is a synthetic linear peptide of eleven amino-acid residues whose sequence is taken from helix B of human erythropoietin — the face of the protein that is exposed to solvent and does not participate in binding the erythropoietin receptor.
The peptide was described by Brines and colleagues in 2008 as one of a set of erythropoietin-derived peptides that reproduce the protein’s tissue-protective architecture without its erythropoietic activity. It carries the development name cibinetide and is produced by chemical synthesis.
